There aren’t many camping and outdoor experiences I’m not willing to try but rock climbing freaks me out. A couple of friends recently went to a coastal national park to scale the face of what looks like a near impossible mountain. The climb begins easy enough but then it gets steeper and steeper until there are moments when they were climbing up out and over to the top of the ridge like Tom Cruise did at the start of Mission Impossible III. I know this because one of them brought a video camera, led the climb and filmed the other two throughout the six-hour adventure. Rock climbing is all about trusting yourself and the rock that’s under the pressure of your body weight.
When they hit the peak the first thing one of the guys said was, “If this doesn’t make you feel alive then I don’t know what will.” Each one of them says rock climbing is one of the most thrilling things they have ever done. Personally, I’m going to stick with camping and hiking on average trails. I love outdoor camping and traditional hiking is still exhilarating.
