The outdoor sports I participate in during the winter include hunting, occasionally outdoor camping and kinking, riding ATV's and dirt bikes, and fishing. The hunting season is winding down in another month, just in time for the very early jump on the outdoor sports of trout and crappie fishing. The state DNR has begun stocking lakes and streams across the state so I have been online ordering the supplies I need for this favorite outdoor sports activity. This year I am going to tweak my outdoors sports trout fishing methods somewhat. I normally catch the majority of my trout using a spinning rod and reel with a variety of popular trout spinners. This is a blast when a nice trout makes a wild rush at the spinner and grabs hold. It happens so fast I often find myself tensing up in anticipation of this wild hit on my spinner. This "strike" will literally happen in the blink of an eye so I need to be ready. I have missed many trout over the years of outdoors sports trout fishing because I was chatting with other people fishing or just plain enjoying the beauty of the lake and scenery. For this season of outdoors sports trout fishing I am going to continue to use my tried and true spinner fishing but I am also going to combine this with the method most outdoors sports trout fishermen and women use when fishing in lakes. This is the use of a specially formulated trout bait the trout will hit more than any other bait. The fish do this because this special trout bait is very similar in colors and scent to the food they were raised on in the state hatcheries. What I found online at Route 66 Mega Mall is Jim Dandy Trout Bait(Pack of 9) the special outdoors sports trout bait most people use.
One reason I will be using this bait is we are now able to use two fishing poles for outdoors sports fishing due to a change in the fishing laws concerning trout fishing in the state. My plan is to continue to use my spinning outfit as usual while I rig up another fishing pole with the trout bait. This bait has to be fished in a certain way to be effective. The method is to dip out enough bait to form a small ball and mold this around the fishing hook. Then the bait must be dipped into the water for a minute or two until it becomes very sticky so it stays on the hook when casting. Approximately one to four feet above the bait a sinker is crimped to take the bait to the bottom of the lake. While the sinker rests on the bottom the bait then "floats" back towards the surface according to how many feet there is between the hook and the sinker. The trout will be a various depths during the day so this has to be adjusted until you find where the trout are hovering. They smell and see the colorful bait, and if all goes as planned you have a trout on the line. Located at www.route66megamall.com is where I found this complete set of outdoors sports trout bait for my outdoors sports fishing.
