Going Outdoor Camping in the Snow This Winter |
| 9/17/2009 9:54:06 AM |
Although it's going to be Fall officially next week, we have months of outdoor camping ahead of us. This winter we decided to give winter camping a try. Summer outdoor camping is pretty easy, and since we are veteran campers, we've decided to raise the bar and try it when the weather is somewhat challenging. One way we are preparing for outdoor camping in the snow is to get a tent heater, warmer sleeping bags, and more food. Since we will be having to keep our bodies warmer, we will need more food. In fact, I was watching a health related show on TV yesterday and they said research proves that people burn more calories in the cold than they do when it's warm, so we will bring along food higher in fat than we usually do when we're outdoor camping. I think it will be such an experience to try outdoor camping. No doubt we will have the woods to ourselves. We will make sure we let someone know when and where we are going. And we'll bring lots of firewood along just in case the woods are deep with snow. Our country was settled by folks who had to do winter camping, so with today's technology, I'm sure it can be done again. |
