Viewing Thunderstorms and Wildlife When Outdoor Camping |
| 7/25/2009 9:01:44 AM |
If there were a good weekend for outdoor camping, this would be the one. The weather is perfect for being outside, and the late afternoons promise rain and possibly thunderstorms. Most people do not wish for storms when they are out camping, but my family does. At the first clap of thunder, we climb in the car, drive to the nearest meadow where the viewing is the best, and take out our digital cameras and get great shots of lightening strikes, heavy rain and black clouds. When there aren't big thunderstorms, we go to the same meadows and sit quietly waiting for the deer to come. One night we saw a small herd of deer and watched them play. They actually have some sort of a dance they do with each other. It was really something to watch. There is so much to see and do when outdoor camping besides chasing storms and watching wildlife. We also entertain ourselves when outdoor camping by playing card games using real cards (a novelty), and of course, eating delicious food skillfully prepared over the campfire. Outdoor camping is the best way we know of to recharge our batteries and reconnect with the real world. |
