Fishing has to be one of my favorite outdoor sports. Getting out into the great outdoors, sitting on a calm lake, or wading knee high in a river can be a tremendous stress reliever. The best part of fishing is that you don't really need expensive equipment or have to train for it. There are times when you do need to get some special equipment. I took my son to a carp fishing tournament last year in Austin, Texas. The tournament was paying a cash prize, but the real reason was just to get away for a few days, do some carp fishing(which I had never done before), and spend some time with my son.

Since I had never gone carp fishing before, I did some research online for techniques, equipment, and different types of strategy. After printing out several sheets of information, I went shopping for a strong pole, and special tackle for carp fishing. We took off on a Thursday for Austin and got there the night before the tournament. While we didn't win the cash prize (we didn't even break the top 20), my son and I had a great time and did manage to catch a few carp.
