Be prepared for camping hiking adventures. |

I just heard on the news about two camping hiking people who are trapped in the mountains of the state of Arizona. From what I understand this couple went camping hiking for the weekend and have been trapped by a sudden snow storm. This also happens a few times a year in my home state and those of us who enjoy camping hiking adventures during the fall and winter months when the weather can be clear in the morning and snowing hard by noon have to take precautions for this unexpected change in weather. I always carry a cell phone with a full charge, a flashlight, an emergency thermal blanket, extra dry food that can be reconstituted with water or snow, a good survival knife, a GPS unit, and the most important item of all, a mirror. Why a mirror? Because I can use the sunlight to "flash" aircraft and rescue parties should I and my companions become stranded or injured. The sport of camping hiking is really very safe and even with sudden inclement weather with these few items you can survive until help arrives.
